Biomaterials: bring the world of materials to life

Biomaterials have an interface between a material and a biological system and generally the study of biomaterials combines the topics of physics, chemistry, engineering, medicine and biology. The main focus of the research is on the development of new materials and their problem-solving applications in medical technology and biology. Our biomaterials research includes biomimetic, bioinspired and biomimicry approaches. Biofabrication is an important facet of our research. The fascination of biomaterials lies mainly in the interdisciplinary and integrative nature of this research area. In the forefront of this area are antimicrobial biomaterials, protein adsorption to biomaterial interfaces, biomaterials in hard tissue contact and biomimetic biomaterials.
